Extend your weekend with teleworking: examples of stays

Updated: 5 days ago

You know that moment on Sunday afternoon when you say to yourself:

"It would be so nice to stay a little longer..."... before hitting the road, catching the train or boarding the plane?

Good news: with remote working, you can really stay longer.

The idea is not to work "on the sly" from the beach, but to set up your laptop in a proper flat with a good internet connection and extend your weekend in a conscious, organised... and much more enjoyable way.

In this article, I will show you how to extend your weekend by working remotely, with three specific examples of stays on the French Riviera, in Grasse and Juan-les-Pins.

Why working from home is your best ally for extending the weekend

The principle is simple:

  1. You're going away for the weekend as usual.

  2. Instead of going home on Sunday, you stay a few more days.

  3. You are teleworking from your place of residence (in accordance with the rules, which we will come back to shortly).

  4. You enjoy your surroundings before/after your working day.

Result:

  • you gain 1, 2, 3 days on site,

  • you avoid the dreaded "Sunday evening commute",

  • You experience a few days of work... but in a setting that resembles a holiday.

And on the French Riviera, off-season means:

  • morning coffee in natural light,

  • lunch break on the terrace,

  • a stroll along the seafront or through a historic town centre at the end of the day.

To make all this possible, there is just one key point: do things properly with your company.

Before booking: what you need to confirm with your company

Before you start, make sure you're on the right track. In general, you just need to check a few things:

  • That your company allows remote working (in France, and in some cases in Europe).

  • That you remain in the country specified by the teleworking policy (in this case: mainland France → perfect for the Côte d’Azur).

  • That you stick to your usual schedule (or a schedule agreed upon in advance).

  • That you have a suitable working environment: a good internet connection, space to isolate yourself, etc.

You can simply tell your manager/HR:

“I plan to go to the French Riviera for a weekend and stay an extra 2–3 days. I will be working remotely from a fully equipped flat in France with suitable Wi-Fi. I will be available during my usual working hours.”

Once that's sorted, you can move on to the fun part: organising your trip.

Example 1 – Long weekend from Friday to Tuesday

This is the "classic" format: you add two nights to your weekend.

Friday

  • You arrive in the late afternoon or evening.

  • You settle quietly into the flat:

    • in Grasse, in the "Les Senteurs du Soleil" apartment, in the heart of the historic Provençal town centre.

    • in Juan-les-Pins, in the "Les Rivages du Soleil" apartment, just a few minutes from the sea, in a seaside atmosphere.

  • A relaxed evening with no pressure: a simple dinner, a short walk, a shower, and then bed.

Saturday & Sunday – Weekend fashion

You get the most out of it:

  • visits, walks, beach, restaurants,

  • No video calls, no emails (or the bare minimum if you're a freelancer).

    Ideas:

  • in Grasse:

    • visit to a perfumery,

    • strolling through the narrow streets,

    • café terrace,

    • Sunday getaway to a hilltop village.

Alleyway in the historic centre of Grasse
  • in Juan-les-Pins:

    • walk to Antibes along the seafront,

    • lunch with your feet in the sand,

    • sunset on the beach.

Monday & Tuesday – Teleworking days

You're going back to work, but in a much more pleasant environment than usual.

  • Morning:

    • breakfast,

    • set up in the office corner or at the living room table,

    • visios / focus.

  • Midday:

    • lunch break at home or on the terrace,

    • a short walk to get some fresh air.

  • Afternoon:

    • continuation of your typical day working from home,

    • finishes around 5–6 p.m.

  • Evening:

    • walk,

    • restaurant or quiet dinner at home,

    • time for you.

You then return on Tuesday evening (or Wednesday morning if you can postpone your departure a little).

Example 2 – Bracket from Saturday to Wednesday

Can't leave on Friday? No problem.

Saturday

  • Departure in the morning.

  • Arrival in the early/mid afternoon on the French Riviera.

  • Settling into the flat, getting to know the area, first impressions.

Sunday – A day of complete relaxation

  • You make the most of your Sunday:

    • walks, beach, historic centre,

    • without thinking about leaving in the evening (since you're staying 😉).

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday – Working from home

You work from your flat, just like at home, but better:

  • you can keep your workplace the same for 3 days,

  • you start and end your days in a city where others are on holiday,

  • you enjoy your surroundings morning, noon and night.

This format works very well if you can take a single day off or none at all, depending on your organisation (for example, if you already have teleworking days in your contract).

Example 3 – Combining two weekends with a few days on site

Now we move on to the "little interlude in life" version.

Typical week

  • Arrival: Friday (week 1)

  • Weekend 1: holiday mode

  • Monday → Friday: teleworking on site

  • Week-end 2 : holiday mode

  • Return: Sunday (week 2)

So you pass:

  • 2 full weekends,

  • plus 5 days of work in the same place.

In practical terms, you settle into one place for several days, keep your usual work rhythm… and enjoy a setting that makes all the difference.

  • no need to repack your suitcase,

  • no change of accommodation,

  • a very pleasant pace of life.

You can even:

  • spend half a week in Grasse and then

  • half in Juan-les-Pins (or vice versa) if you want to vary the atmosphere:

 For example:

  • Friday – Wednesday: Grasse (perfume, narrow streets, hinterland).

  • Wednesday – Sunday: Juan-les-Pins (sea, beach, walks).

Grasse or Juan-les-Pins: where to set up your laptop?

To extend your weekend, you need a truly comfortable place to stay, with everything you need:

  • work in peace,

  • cook,

  • sleep properly,

  • enjoy the destination.

At RivieraBooking, you have two main options.

Grasse – Historic centre, perfumes and views of the hills

Appartement "Les Senteurs du soleil"

If you like:

  • the cobbled streets,

  • the colourful façades,

  • the views over the hills,

  • perfume museums,

Then you might like Grasse.

Our apartment "Les Senteurs du Soleil" offers you:

  • a large living space,

  • comfortable rooms,

  • enough to set up a pleasant office area,

  • a warm atmosphere for a long weekend that feels a bit like "living in the old town" for a few days.

Juan-les-Pins – Work during the day, stroll along the seafront in the evening

Apartment "Les Rivages du soleil"

If you need:

  • to see the sea,

  • to walk on the sand after a day's work,

  • to feel a seaside atmosphere even out of season,

then Juan-les-Pins is perfect.

  • Do you have a Wi-Fi connection suitable for video calls?

  • a workspace in each room,

  • the beach within walking distance,

  • restaurants and walks for the end of your day.

5 practical tips to keep your long weekend stress-free

  1. Plan your professional schedule in advance, at least to some extent.

    • If you have important meetings, plan to be in the flat (not surrounded by people outside).

    • Block out periods of concentration if your work allows it.

  2. Arrives the day before your first day of teleworking

    • Avoid combining 5 hours of travelling with a long day at work.

    • The idea is to be calm and rested to begin with.

  3. Test the Wi-Fi when you arrive.

    • Do a quick test (Speedtest or similar) to reassure yourself.

    • Find the spot where the connection is best.

  4. Clearly warn the people accompanying you.

    • You are on a 'long weekend', not on holiday.

    • Explain that you will be genuinely available outside of your working hours.

  5. Keep a real "break" in the evening

    • Set yourself an end time,

    • Switch off the computer.

    • Go out, walk, have a drink, watch the sunset...

    • This is where the magic of the long weekend happens ✨

Ready to try your first long weekend working from home?

To sum up:

  • You can extend your weekend by staying 2, 3, or 5 more days.

  • You continue to work as normal, but in a much more pleasant environment.

  • You can enjoy the French Riviera, especially out of season, when it is milder, quieter and more accessible.

You still have to choose:

  • Grasse for its historic centre, perfumes and hinterland,

  • Juan-les-Pins for its proximity to the sea, walks along the beach and seaside atmosphere,

  • or both if you really want to treat yourself.
